The Department for Education (DfE) has set clear expectations for schools to meet sustainability goals by 2025. Schools are required to appoint a sustainability lead and publish a Climate Action Plan (CAP). The CAP should address four key themes:

• Measure and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy audits and improvements.

• Improve energy efficiency through insulation, lighting, and behavioural changes.

• Transition to low-carbon heating systems and renewable energy sources.

• Implement on-site renewable generation such as solar and wind.

• Create or restore green spaces to support local wildlife and increase biodiversity.
